Welcome back to another #FriendlyFriday, where I tell you about my fabulous friends and the brilliant things they do!
In all my years of posting #FriendlyFriday, I somehow forgot to introduce you to today's friend, Adam Selzer! In honor of the beginning of Halloween month this weekend, let's fix that right now!
An author and historian, Adam has spent over a decade running hundreds of tours per year for companies such as Chicago Hauntings, Shoreline Sightseeing, and Weird Chicago. Early in his career, he began fact-checking the stories commonly told on such tours and found that they were a mess! With painstaking research, he rebuilt the stories he was telling from the ground up, spending hours poring through reels of microfilm, piles of paper from the legal archives, and drawers full of long-forgotten photos and documents. This gave him material to make his tour different from any others, and he now runs tours privately for a variety of companies, including his own Mysterious Chicago.
But today I'm excited because his book, The Ghosts of Chicago, has been re-released! Originally released in 2013, The Ghosts of Chicago was the most complete and in-depth book yet written on the topic, drawing on years of research tracing Chicago's ghostlore back to primary sources, first-hand accounts, and archival records. Now, for the 10th anniversary, the long out-of-print book is back in a new edition featuring new chapters, revisions, more photos, and a lot more!
So if you love ghost stories, history, or Chicago itself, I definitely think you should snag a copy for your Halloween TBR! Click here to purchase your copy, and of course, make sure to stop by Adam's website to not only check out his other titles, but to also listen to his podcasts, take a virtual tour, or even book your own Mysterious Chicago tour!
