Welcome back to another #FriendlyFriday, where I tell you all about my fabulous friends and what brilliant things that they are up to!
I can't believe I haven't introduced you to today's friend before! Liz DeJesus was a fellow Waterworld Mermaid and is a novelist, freelance writer, writing coach and a poet. Much like me, she has been writing for as long as she was capable of holding a pen. She is the author of The Jackets, The Frost Series, Morgan, The Laurel, Girl, Mugshots, and Zombie Ever After. Her work has also appeared in Twice Upon a Time and Someone Wicked, and her articles have been featured in Southern Writers Magazine.
But today she's here because she just released her first children's book! ABC With The Vejigantes is out now and I'm so excited for it! Are you ready to hear about it?
Once a year, in the beautiful tropical island of Puerto Rico they celebrate the Fiestas de Santiago El Apostól.
The vejigantes are an important part of Puerto Rican history. During the Fiestas de Santiago el Apostól, the vejigantes’ intentions was to frighten people and compel them to go back to church for Lent. A week before Ash Wednesday, vejigantes wear long, colorful robes and brightly painted masks to cause mischief. The parade has four main characters: the vejigantes, the knights, the crazy women and the elders.
Learn about the alphabet from the mischievous Vejigantes from Puerto Rican culture as well as the Spanish language with vividly illustrated images accompanying the text!
