Welcome back to another #FriendlyFriday, where I tell you about my fabulous friends and the brilliant things they are up to!
I am beyond thrilled to introduce you to my good friend and amazing illustrator, Adam Rex! Adam and I go way back to the book Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich — I got the galley for that book when I worked at Ingram and I loved it SO MUCH that I passed it around to all my friends there and WE ALL loved it so much that each one of us took a page/poem out of the book and decorated our offices for CHRISTMAS. Janet took the Zombie one, Kitti took Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich, and I took “The Phantom of the Opera Can’t Get the 12 Days of Christmas Out Of His Head” and I redrew his ENTIRE page on my cubicle wall and it was magnificent! I still have the spot piece of the Phantom fleeing down the stairs. I could have sworn I had written a blog post about it with pics and everything, but I can’t find it now, so it must have been deleted. Shame. That was a fun holiday season!
Anyhoo, on to the book of the hour! Adam illustrated this adorable picture book, Gladys the Magic Chicken, written by Adam Rubin and I can't wait to tell you more about it. Ready?
From the mega-bestselling author of Dragons Love Tacos and the mega-bestselling illustrator of The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors, comes this hilarious new picture book about an irresistible chicken who unexpectedly finds herself on an epic journey during Ancient Times. Gladys the chicken must be magic. After all, for everyone who encounters her, a wish is granted. The Shepherd Boy wishes to be beautiful, the Brave Swordsman wishes to join the Royal Guard, the Purple Pooh-bah wishes for his only daughter to be happy, and the Learned Princess wishes to escape the palace. And one by one, each of these wishes comes true. But . . . is Gladys really magic? Or is everyone making their own fortune? Either way, it adds up to one heck of an adventure for a chicken named Gladys. Blending a classic storybook feel with a thoroughly modern sense of humor, this side-splitting read aloud is perfect for anyone who wishes to see magic in the world—even if they are only looking at a chicken.
This book sounds absolutely adorable and I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy, and you shouldn't either! Click here to purchase your copy of Gladys the Magic Chicken, and then, as always, make sure to stop by Adam's website to check out his other works. You may just find your next favorite story!
